The National Museum of American History opened a gift shop this week that sells only American-made merchandise. The change came "thanks to a determined senator," Diane Sawyer said on ABC World News. It all started when Bernie went shopping for gifts for his grandchildren and saw that small busts of U.S. presidents were made in China. "A museum owned by the American people, designed to express our history and our greatness, should sell products made by American workers," he said.

Fighting for a Fair Budget
A member of the Senate Budget Committee, Bernie is leading the fight against a Republican plan to decimate Medicare and Medicaid. Incredibly, the House-passed budget also would give $1 trillion in tax breaks to the wealthiest Americans and profitable corporations. He staked out his position on the budget in a Huffington Post column.

End the War in Afghanistan
President Obama is contemplating steeper troop reductions in Afghanistan than his national security advisers contemplated. One factor is the cost of America’s longest war. "We have a $1.5 trillion deficit. We’re spending $100 billion a year on Afghanistan. A lot of it goes to rebuild that country," Bernie said. "You know what? I know a great country that needs to rebuild its roads, bridges and schools. That country is called the United States of America."

Bernie introduced a bill to lower the cost of solar power. It would put the United States on track to install 10 million solar systems on homes and businesses by 2020. The ranking Republican on the green jobs subcommittee is a cosponsor. TheBurlington Free Press praised Bernie for "another example of working across party lines."
