County Commission District 1 candidates

About 100 people crowded the American Legion Post 155 on Saturday morning to hear candidates for Citrus County Commission District 1 express their views in a campaign that is expected to draw much interest.

Incumbent Dennis Damato, seeking his third term, faces Crystal River Councilman Ron Kitchen and businesswoman Renee Christopher-McPheeters in the Republican primary. So far there are no Democrats in the race; official qualifying for the ballot is in June. If no Democrats enter the race than the primary will be it and the winner will get the office. Informed sources tell “The Eye” that Damato feels he has the election in the bag, with his huge war chest of funds and public sympathy for his medical condition.

In the early 1960s, America’s top military leaders reportedly drafted plans to kill innocent people and commit acts of terrorism in U.S. cities to create public support for a war against Cuba.

Code named Operation Northwoods, the plans reportedly included the possible assassination of Cuban émigrés, sinking boats of Cuban refugees on the high seas, hijacking planes, blowing up a U.S. ship, and even orchestrating violent terrorism in U.S. cities.

The plans were developed as ways to trick the American public and the international community into supporting a war to oust Cuba’s then new leader, communist Fidel Castro.

America’s top military brass even contemplated causing U.S. military casualties, writing: "We could blow up a U.S. ship in Guantanamo Bay and blame Cuba," and, "casualty lists in U.S. newspapers would cause a helpful wave of national indignation."

Details of the plans are described in Body of Secrets (Doubleday), a new book by investigative reporter James Bamford about the history of America’s largest spy agency, the National Security Agency. However, the plans were not connected to the agency, he notes.

The plans had the written approval of all of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and were presented to President Kennedy’s defense secretary, Robert McNamara, in March 1962. But they apparently were rejected by the civilian leadership and have gone undisclosed for nearly 40 years.

"These were Joint Chiefs of Staff documents. The reason these were held secret for so long is the Joint Chiefs never wanted to give these up because they were so embarrassing," Bamford told ABCNEWS.com.

"The whole point of a democracy is to have leaders responding to the public will, and here this is the complete reverse, the military trying to trick the American people into a war that they want but that nobody else wants." Rest of story here….

Recently a member of the Transportation Planning Organization, complained that he was "not in the loop" about "Port Citrus" a  Citrus County Commission project.

Actually, whoever in the general public, that I have spoken to – and that is many, I can truthfully say that the average Citizen does not want our tax money "In the Loop" of "Port Citrus"!! We are tired of politician’s Tax & Spend Mentality: WITHOUT THE GO-AHEAD of the Citizens!

The Citizens are definitely "Out of the Loop" on Port Citrus, just as much as they were "Out of the Loop"  on the "Ottawa Connector" , and the "Inter local Centralized Sewer Agreement", even though their taxes/finances were shoved/planned  to be "In the Loop" – "to the hilt" on all of these BOCC Projects!!!

There has been no advertised official public hearing or referendum on "Port Citrus: both are recommended or else NOT ANOTHER of the Citizen’s tax dollars should go into the "Port Citrus" $$$ Money Loop!! In fact at this point MOST Citizens want THEIR money OUT OF THE LOOP" & NO MORE IN THE LOOP!!! The BOCC is supposed to represent "WE THE PEOPLE"!

A new survey by left-leaning Public Policy Polling (PPP) finds the Texas congressman now leading for the GOP nomination in Iowa, where voters cast the first ballots of the 2012 presidential contest on Jan. 3.

Paul today also announced on his website that he raised more than $4 million since Friday in his latest "money bomb," aimed at helping him in Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina and Nevada — which all hold early caucuses or primaries.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Lamar Smith urged U.S. lawmakers to approve Hollywood-backed legislation aimed at stopping Internet piracy of movies and goods that Google Inc. (GOOG) opposes as promoting censorship.

Smith’s panel is debating 60 proposed amendments to the Stop Online Piracy Act today before deciding whether to send the measure to the full House for consideration. Lawmakers on the panel raised concerns that a provision on blocking websites may damage the security of the Internet’s domain-name system and requested a delay to hear technical testimony.

Lobbying by the entertainment and Internet industries intensified ahead of today’s hearing. Movie studios, including Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc., want a crackdown on non-U.S. websites that sell illegally copied films and TV shows. Web companies say the House measure would harm innovation.

“Laws equip U.S. authorities and rights-holders to take action against criminals who operate within our borders,” Smith, a Republican from Texas, said in an opening statement at the hearing. “But there is no parallel authority that permits effective action against criminals who operate from abroad.”

The bill would let the Justice Department ask courts to order Internet-service providers, search engines, payment services and advertising networks to block or cease business with non-U.S. websites trafficking in stolen content or counterfeit goods.

A similar measure, the Protect IP Act, was approved by the Senate Judiciary Committee in May and is awaiting action by the full Senate. Rest of story here….

Sixteen Internet executives, including Google co-founder Sergey Brin, PayPal Inc. co-founderElon Musk, and EBay Inc. (EBAY) founder Pierre Omidyar, published an open letter to Congress in major newspapers yesterday saying the House and Senate bills would give the U.S. government power to censor the Web.

Google, Facebook Inc. and other Internet companies rallied around an alternative draft bill from Senator Ron Wyden, an Oregon Democrat, and Representative Darrell Issa, a California Republican, which would make the U.S. International Trade Commission the arbiter of complaints about non-U.S. websites linked to piracy.

Washington has been bought by the Corporate Monolith. The individuals on the Hill know NO allegiance to the people. Their only allegiance is to the Corporate Monolith which controls all their actions. The American Democracy may be too late to save. The one, last attempt, to stop the downfall of our Nation and the Democracy that it once was is being offered by a Constitutional Amendment proposed and submitted by the Senator from Vermont, Bernie Sanders. Bernie Sanders is a friend of mine and a former neighbor of mine when I lived in Vermont. He had a small farm on Miller Hill, many years ago. Bernie and myself, as well as many Americans, never envisioned a day when so many of our individual rights would be stripped away by a cold, uncaring government, a government bought and paid for by the Corporate Elite. The American people have been and are being bombarded with ideas that are alien to our way of life. Ideas such as the ruling by the Supreme Court, that Corporations have the same rights as individuals, as you and I, and therefore, can contribute to various campaigns, using various tricks, enormous amounts of money, thereby, guaranteeing the election of their robo-voters to the Congress.
