He finally came around to what other climate scientists have been spouting for years. Richard A. Muller, a physics professor at the University of California-Berkeley, announced over the weekend that his much-publicized investigation into climate data has found that humans’ production of carbon dioxide is causing the world to slowly warm up. And this process could speed up dramatically in the next few years.
Muller’s conclusions attract special attention because of his vocal self-styling as a converted climate change skeptic. Muller criticized global warming studies for sloppy and self-serving data selection and a lack of transparency that obscured errors; he then lambasted fellow scientists for circling the wagons and calling any climate change deniers wrong. Muller says he’s still upset that the American Physical Society declared the evidence for warming "incontrovertible" a few years ago in an official statement.
"We don’t do things in science that are incontrovertible," Muller said in an interview with Yahoo News.
Muller took matters into his own hands and embarked on his own investigation into the data with his daughter Elizabeth and a team of scientists three years ago. His Berkeley Earth Surface Temperatureproject attracted funding from the Charles Koch Charitable Foundation, the nonprofit outfit of a wealthy businessman who denies that global warming is happening. Three years later, Muller ended up surprising himself when his research confirmed everything those same studies that drew his skepticism concluded, and then some. Muller says his study’s results are more reliable than many previous ones because he intentionally avoided the data pitfalls he objected to, such as only using a portion of the global temperatures available. Muller’s study has not yet been published in a peer-reviewed scientific journal, but he says he plans to do so at some point. One climate scientist, Benjamin D. Santer, told the Los Angeles Times he thinks posting the study online and not in a journal is in "the spirit of publicity, not the spirit of science" and may do more to hurt the global warming cause than help it. But Muller wants to get feedback on his methods and to share his results with everyone, avoiding what he sees as a secrecy and lack of transparency that surrounded earlier climate change studies. Seeger moved to Citrus County in 1999 and graduated from the Citrus County School District and later from the Withlacoochee Technical Institute, where she studied corrections.
During her career, she worked for Corrections Corporation of America at the Lecanto Detention Facility. Most recently, Wendy Moore, her mother, said, she worked as a federal corrections officer in Sumter County. However, it has been several years since she worked at the federal facility, according to the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office.
Seeger is the mother of a 10-month-old boy and a 4-year-old girl who are being raised by their father, his parents and Moore. Seeger and her husband were married in 2008 and have recently separated according to her mother.
Jamie Seeger, who authorities said died Wednesday from multiple gunshot wounds, had been paid to give sheriff’s detectives information on drug dealers and was in fear for her safety. Miss Moore and Mr. Seeger’s attorney, Bill Grant, stated.
Grant said he is seeking information from the sheriff’s office, state attorney and Citrus County Clerk’s Office he said would shed light on Seeger’s relationship with detectives and circumstances of her death.
“We believe her death is a direct relation to her working with the sheriff’s department,” Grant said.
Citrus County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Gail Tierney says they have no leads or suspects, and she refuses to say whether Jamie was working undercover for the sheriffs office.
Seeger, 27, was discovered in her Chrysler Crossfire about 3 a.m. Wednesday near the intersection of North Reynolds Avenue and West Cyrus Street, about a mile and a half east of Crystal River.
Detectives said Seeger was in the driver’s seat and dead of gunshot wounds.
Jamie Seeger’s name was listed as a witness in several recent drug arrest court cases. Moore said one or two of these defendants visited Seeger, though Grant did not know details of those conversations.
Moore said her daughter told sheriff’s detectives she was in fear for her safety.
Eric Seeger, who was separated from his wife, knew Jamie was being paid by the sheriff’s office to provide information, She assisted in the arrests of 23 people on drug charges. Grant said.
Grant said he planned to seek records from the sheriff’s office, including any confidential-informant contracts it had with Jamie Seeger. He said he would also request receipts that showed payments to Seeger from the sheriff’s office. Jamie Seeger maiden name was Jamie Gamble. Her body was cremated today, July 30, 2012. First of all, keeping in mind the Chronicle article of Jan. 16, ”Developer, road contractor aid incumbents with campaign funds,” your readers should know Renee Christopher-McPheeters has never taken campaign donations from special interests, in this race nor in the ‘08 race in which she nearly won — with 46.09 percent of the votes!
In fact, speaking of a road, Renee is the only District 1 candidate (who) opposed the Ottawa fiasco giveaway of millions of our tax dollars before the BOCC! She also is the only candidate (who) stood for unrestricted flying of the U.S. flag before the City Council of Crystal River! As commissioner, she will vote against raising taxes!
No, Renee does not need to go a-begging for contributions from the money people — special interests, developers, lobbyists, doctors, lawyers or accountants as she has something money cannot buy and that is integrity! She founded the first official 9/11/01 Memorial in Citrus County and has received nine original government proclamations against child pornography! This is integrity at its finest!
Please know everyone can vote for Renee Christopher-McPheeters for county commissioner, District 1, no matter the party or district, as this is an open primary. Now get ready for some much needed representation on the BOCC with Renee!

A 27-year-old woman was discovered apparently shot to death in a car in Crystal River early Wednesday morning, the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office said.
Dispatchers received a call at 3 a.m. about multiple shots fired, deputies responded to W. Cyrus Street and N. Reynolds Avenue. They discovered a gray Chrysler in the middle of the road with the woman’s body inside.
Detectives opened a homicide investigation, and crime technicians are processing the scene.
Authorities are withholding the woman’s name pending notification of relatives.

The Aurora shootings occurred on Friday, July 20, 2012, when a gunman in a gas mask opened fire during an overnight showing of The Dark Knight Rises in theater nine at Century 16, a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado. The gunman set off a smoke grenade in the theater before he began shooting, and is believed to have killed fourteen people and injured fifty.
Injured people were treated at several hospitals including a makeshift hospital set up at the scene of the attack. Uninjured witnesses were transported to Gateway High School for de-briefing.
The 24-year-old alleged shooter was a heavily armed suspect that was wearing a bulletproof vest and gas mask, walked into the emergency exit of theater 9, threw a smoke bomb and began to fire. The suspect was apprehended shortly after the shooting.Once apprehended the suspect told authorities that there was explosives in his residence. Investigators rushed to the apartment in North Aurora and which was quickly evacuated. Investigators confirmed explosives were found.

In response to the 7/8/12 "Out the Window" article, I do take exception to the reference to myself, Rene Christopher-McPheeters, Candidate for Citrus County Commission, District 1, as "changing" my name, as "Christopher" was my last name at birth, and as having "low name recognition", being in fact, well known throughout Citrus County, this is a very unfair and biased article, and I truly feel that I deserve having my reply published! Instead, both of my opponents in this District 1, race for county commissioner, fall into your "low name" category: as on the campaign trail throughout the county, I have found that both of my opponents - the incumbent commissioner and incumbent councilman are either unknown or are known and the Citizens are "tired" of their "good old boy" cronyism. Whereas, I have stood for the Citizens not only on the "west side" issues such as the Unfair Crystal River Invalid Annexation (one opponent was for), the Unfair Interlocal Sewer Agreement (both opponents voted for) and the restriction of Flying US Flags(one opponent voted for/the other did not oppose) The publisher was correct in referring to myself as a "citizen activist" yet he failed to note that I have stood on countywide issues, as the only District 1, Citrus County Commission Candidate: Against the "Ottawa Fiasco"/Meadowcrest Multi-Million Dollar Giveaways on the Most Important BOCC Voting Days!
